Biography

Kavan is a Food Science Master's student at the University of Minnesota, conducting research with Dr. Ismail. After earning his B.S. in Food Science from UMN, he continued his academic journey to pursue his passion for a sustainable food future. His current research focuses on the dry separation of Minnesota beans, building upon a strong foundation of undergraduate research with alternative proteins and R&D industry experience at companies like PURIS and Cargill. He is dedicated to optimizing alternative protein sources, novel processing methods, and plant-based foods. Outside of the lab, Kavan enjoys making music, baking sourdough, brewing coffee, and exploring new places.
