Tuition & Fees

Cost of Attendance

The University of Minnesota operates on a banded tuition structure. Graduate students enrolled in 6–14 credits are considered full-time students and are billed the same tuition, regardless of the number of credits taken within the 6–14 credit band.

All graduate programs in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition fall under the purview of the "Graduate and Professional" tuition schedule, which can be found on the One Stop Student Services tuition webpage.

Tuition rates for the 2024–2025 academic year are as follows:

Enrollment per semester

Resident tuition per semester

Non-resident tuition per semester

Each credit under 6

$1,665

$2,601

6–14 credits (full-time enrollment)

$9,990

$15,606

Each credit over 14

$1,665

$2,601

Information about residency and reciprocity can be found on the One Stop Student Services reciprocity programs webpage.

In addition to tuition, the University of Minnesota charges students a series of university, collegiate, service, usage, course, and registration fees. Fees will vary by student, based on their home college and course enrollments. Information about student fees can be found on the One Stop Student Services fees webpage.

Be aware that tuition and fees are billed centrally by the University of Minnesota and not by the Department of Food Science and Nutrition. Specific questions should be addressed to One Stop Student Services.

Living expenses are a significant contributing factor to the cost of attendance at the University of Minnesota. Information about peripheral and incidental costs of graduate program attendance can be found on the One Stop Student Services cost of attendance webpage under the dropdown titled “Graduate.”

International students should be especially mindful of the non-tuition costs of attending a graduate program in the United States. Cost information specific to international students can be found on the International Student and Scholar Services costs & scholarships webpage.
