Phytochemistry & Sustainable Biotechnology
Biography
Gunaseelan is a passionate biotechnology researcher with over eight years of experience in algal biotechnology, phytochemistry, nutraceuticals, and bioprocess technology. With a Doctorate in Biotechnology from Madurai Kamaraj University, his research on marine bioactives, particularly phlorotannins derived from brown algae, has led to innovative applications in combating oxidative stress mediated conditions and bioproducts development.
Gunaseelan has authored over 15 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to funded research projects, and collaborated across multidisciplinary teams in food technology, marine biotechnology, and bioprocessing. His expertise includes optimizing extraction processes, algal cultivation, and nanoencapsulation, alongside hands-on experience with C. elegans, Zebrafish models, and gene expression studies.
Throughout his career, he has successfully translated research data into impactful solutions, including upcycling food waste into value-added products and enhancing biodiesel production from marine biomass. His leadership as Vice President of the ASM Student Chapter-MKU, organizer of international seminars, and mentor to postgraduates underscores his dedication to scientific innovation and community engagement.
Committed to sustainability and environmental biotechnology, Gunaseelan envisions harnessing marine biomasses and invasive seaweeds to develop nutraceutical and protein alternatives. His ongoing work with upcycling and bioconversion of agricultural wastes into value-added products makes him a prominent contributor to green technology.
