Our AD Retires

July 11, 2025

A vital, longtime member of our FScN community has retired! Dorit Hafner first joined the University of Minnesota in 1998 and later became the FScN Administrative Director in 2011, where she has since served under 7 successive department heads!

A message from Dorit: “[I] never regretted coming here. I enjoyed being part of the Lunch Bunch specifically, a fun group meeting over lunch sharing stories and life events, venting, celebrating and becoming friends. Students were always a great passion of mine to help them succeed doing my little part in it. Becoming friends with many staff and faculty also made it easy to get up in the morning and come to work, and now keep in touch with. As they always say - one will miss the people the most! I sure will too.”

We asked Dorit what she’s most looking forward to in retirement: “No alarm clock!  Having 6 Saturdays and 1 Sunday every week. Enjoying more camping trips and travel in general.”

A message from Dept Head Job Ubbbink: “Throughout her time with us, Dorit has truly embodied the spirit and values of our community. Her commitment to supporting our students, staff, and faculty, as well as her thoughtful leadership, have been critical to helping the department grow and thrive—even during challenging times. On behalf of the whole department, I would like to sincerely thank Dorit for her service to the department and wish her the very best in her retirement.”

Congrats on your retirement, Dorit! And we look forward to seeing you at departmental community events in the future!
