Research Title: Effects of Algae Feeding on Mouse Metabolome
My research focused on the changes induced by algae feeding in mice based on LC-MS metabolomics study. Results will provide novel metabolic information associated with mice growth performance, therefore, metabolites could be used to better understand the nutrient benefits or side effects of algae feeding.
How did you become interested in nutrition?
It was my dream to be a doctor when I was young. Then I chose biology as my undergraduate major. During school, I took some lessons that related to nutrition and it was really interesting. I realized that I could change the lives of people by teaching them about the science of food and nutrition; information that can greatly benefit them and their families later on in life.
Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?
Because of the winter weather, which helps me build a strong character.
How does your research tie into the research being done in your adviser's lab?
Our lab mainly focuses on the metabolic changes induced by dietary or chemicals based on LC-MS metabolomics analysis. My research is using algae as diet to examine the benefits of algae consumption.
I plan be a registered dietitian and become a professional in health care industry in the future.
