Buhler Twin Screw Extruder

The Buhler extruder at the University of Minnesota provides a unique opportunity to develop ingredient and product prototypes, and to troubleshoot formulas on a medium-scale, modern extrusion and drying system. The extruder is computer controlled and features mass-flow liquid metering and load-cell controlled, loss in weight dry ingredient metering. There are 4 heating zones on the screw and 7 barrel sections. Various dies and cutters are available, and pellets are automatically air conveyed to a fluidized bed dryer. The availability of the pilot plant’s other resources, like a ribbon blender for powder mixing and panning equipment for flavor addition, help provide a complete solution for your pilot scale extrusion needs.
