Retired FSCN professor Dr. Edmund Anthony Zottola, age 85, passed away on October 4. Ed worked at the University of Minnesota for 31 years as an Extension food microbiologist. 

Former FSCN department head and CFANS dean Allen Levine has been named the University’s Vice President for Research.

The department is excited to welcome back its alumni as a part of the U’s annual homecoming celebration on Friday, October 20.

A local nonprofit recently partnered with student volunteers from the department to teach children about nutrition and food science.

Ray Miller and Mitchell Maher's three entries in the Minnesota State Fair Cheese Contest all placed in the top five. 

Graduate students Drew Carter and Chelsey Hinnenkamp were recently announced as recipients of the John Brandt scholarship from Land O’Lakes.

A group of students from the Department of Food Science and Nutrition are developing ideas to improve sustainability and nutrition within University Dining Services.

Undergraduate student Jamie Freier and graduate student Bill Lendway attended the summit aimed at creating change in foodservice.
