Claire Peichel AwardFSCN senior Claire Peichel took home a Certificate of Excellence Award for her oral presentation during the Poultry Science Association annual meeting this past summer.

Peichel, who is majoring in food science while also conducting research under Dr. Anup Kollanoor Johny in the Animal Science Department, took home the award for her research entitled “Effect of Lemon Grass Essential Oil (Cymbopogon citratus)on Multidrug resistant Salmonella Heidelberg in Pountry Drinking Water.”

Out of 250 presenters, just 30 awards were given out, and Peichel was one of just three undergraduates to receive the award.

“I feel really honored to have received this award from the Poultry Science Association this past July in New Orleans,” said Peichel.  “It was an unforgettable experience that would not have happened without the help of my advisor Dr. Johny, my labmates, and the Jones-Hamilton Travel Grant. I met many amazing scientists and am thankful for such a successful first step in my future career in academia.”
