Our graduate students are doing amazing work. Andrew Carter (David Baumler lab) is a finalist in the National Geographic "Chasing Genius" competition in the "Feeding 9 Billion" category.
Winning this competition will provide Andrew with a scholarship to complete some unique research.
His idea is to use agricultural byproducts that normally go to waste as the fuel source for microbial fermentation in order to produce food ingredients similar to those found in dairy products and other foods.
