Former FSCN professor Doug Mashek was recently awarded the American Society of Nutrition (ASN) ELR Stokstad Award as a young investigator.
He will receive the award at the ASN Scientific Sessions and Annual Meeting, April 2-6 in San Diego.
The award is given for outstanding fundamental research in nutrition, with preference to scientists at relatively early stages in their careers. It is supported by an endowment from the family of ELR Stokstad.
Mashek received $2,500 and an engraved plaque.
Mashek’s research interests revolve around various aspects of hepatic and whole-body lipid and energy metabolism as they relate to the development of metabolic diseases. He recently transitioned to the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics at the U after spending nearly a decade in FSCN.
