budaraju and her poster at the conferenceGraduate student Sravanthi Budaraju received the best student paper award in the Engineering and Processing Division at the American Association of Cereal Chemist International (AACCI) Annual Meeting.

Her paper was titled “Optimization of process variables for the microwave assisted extraction of phenolic compounds from barley malt rootlets - a low value by-product from brewing industry”. Sravanthi received $500 for winning, and was recognized at the closing ceremony of the annual meeting on October 23 in London. She is advised by Professor Kumar Mallikarjunan. 

The Engineering and Processing Division sponsors a Best Student Paper Competition. Students submit their abstracts in the spring, when they are screened and three finalists are selected to be judged during their presentation (oral/poster) at the AACCI Annual Meeting.
