Dairy and Meat Salesroom
Due to remodeling in the ABLMS building the Dairy and Meat Salesroom will be temporarily relocated to FSCN 1 for the summer. The room is located on the lower level of the FSCN building, and is easily accessible via doors on the Commonwealth Avenue side of the building. Hours will remain the same (Wednesdays from 2-5 p.m.) and all of the delicious products will still be available.
The Dairy and Meat Salesroom sells dairy products made in the Pilot Plant in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, as well as meat products from the Meat Lab.
Meat Lab products, pricing and information are available here.
The salesroom is open to the public on Wednesdays from 2-5 p.m. Cash and Credit Cards are accepted; sorry, we cannot accept checks.
It is located in Room 1 Food Science and Nutrition, 1334 Eckles Avenue, St. Paul Campus.
Items sold are produced in our state certified dairy plant by students, faculty and staff. The products are made during classes and research projects, or are produced during breaks as a way to fund research and maintenance of the facility.
The University of Minnesota has a rich history of dairy product research that goes back to the early 1900's. Researchers here were instrumental in developing procedures for making blue cheese in the United States, and cheeses were aged in caves on the Mississippi River in St. Paul. All the cheeses are now aged here, but we are still using the procedures developed by these early pioneers.
Be sure to try Minnesota Blue Cheese, and Nuworld Cheese, a white "blue" cheese invented here and made from a white strain of mold. Other popular items include Nuworld spread, gouda, aged cheddar, various herb flavored cheeses and ice cream. Ice cream is sold in half gallons and pints and frozen yogurt is sold in quarts and pints. Availability and prices vary.
University departments may make purchases with an EFS number. Significant advance notice is helpful. Contact Jodi Nelson (email@example.com) or Ray Miller (firstname.lastname@example.org) or call 612-624-7776 for more information.
Gift boxes will be available during November and December, or by special request. Download the Gift Box Order Form (PDF).
