Assistant Program Director, Didactic Program in Dietetics

The University of Minnesota seeks a highly motivated, focused and results-oriented Assistant Program Director, Didactic Program in Dietetics in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition.   This position will be responsible for the day to day program operations of the Didactic Program.  

APPOINTMENT: 12 month, 75 percent time, Academic Administrative appointment (P&A), class # 9342, annually renewable, depending on funding and satisfactory performance.  The position will be available about February 1, 2008.  Annual renewals are contingent upon performance and funding.  The Assistant Program Director is administratively responsible to the Department Head through the Director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Assistant Program Director manages the day-to-day program operations, which includes monitoring University, Department, and American Dietetic Association regulations, and provides administrative support to the Director of the Didactic Program. 

  • Plan and prepare documentation necessary for accreditation site visitations by the American Dietetic Association.  The next accreditation site visit is scheduled for 2009.
  • Conduct, interpret and report results from surveys completed by graduating students, former students, internship directors, and employers.
  • Evaluate transcripts and advise non-degree seeking students who wish to complete the Didactic Program requirements.
  • Provide academic, interdisciplinary requirements and work/volunteer information to persons interested in becoming registered dietitians
  • Explain American Dietetic Association procedures and requirements to students pursuing the Registered Dietitian pathway.
  • Provide program information to current and prospective Didactic Program students.
  • Write recommendation letters for internship applicants.
  • Manage website, data, and files for the Didactic Program.
  • Develop, implement, and advise on resource development for the program.
  • Work with the Director to strategize for the ongoing improvement of quality and efficiency of the program, to develop short- and long-range goals for the program, and to develop protocols for program evaluation, data collection, and program improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
Required – Master’s degree (MS, MA or MPH) and RD; knowledge of research methodology; strong interpersonal and communication skills; strong computer skills, and a commitment to the Standards of Practice in Dietetics.  
Preferred – Experience in Dietetic Education, Some teaching experience in clinical or classroom settings and some work experience in any area of dietetics.
