Kurzer Named Director of HFHL
Mindy Kurzer has been named Director of the newly established Healthy Foods, Healthy Lives (HFHL) Institute in the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS). The HFHL Institute grew from a presidential initiative involving five colleges (School of Public Health, Medical School, College of Vet Med, U of M Extension, and CFANS). Professor Kurzer will maintain collaboration between the five colleges as she works with faculty to strengthen the University of Minnesota's contribution to food and health. (July 2007)

* Congratulations to the Product Development Team for placing 3rd in the National IFT competition, College Bowl as finalists in the National IFT competition (see the plaque), the Food Science & Nutrition Club for placing 3rd in Chapter of the Year at the National competition, and Amit Pal for winning first place in the Oral Paper Competition in the Food Microbiology Division!!! (August 2007)
* The FScN Club are a finalist in the 2007 Chapter of the Year competition. In addition, they are competing in the College Bowl and the Product Development Competitions. Congratulations to Co-Presidents, Helen Hong and Missy Stoll, other officers, and all members on all 3 of your achievements.
* Congratulations to Larry McKay, winner of the IDF Elie Metchnikoff Prize 2007 in the Microbiology category for his research on mobile genetic elements in dairy lactococci. ( Read more about it.)
* Congratulations to Joanne Slavin who received the CFANS Student Board Faculty of the Year award at the CFANS Borealis Night of Excellence. This award is based on votes by CFANS students. Joanne was also recognized for being a Classes Without Quizzes presenter, as was food science graduate student Anna Katherine Mansfield.
* Congratulations to Sherri Schellhaass, FScN alumni and General Mills Vice President for receiving the CFANS Distinguished Alumni Award.
