Post-Doctoral Associate, Food Safety Microbiology
Position Description
The Laboratory of Food Safety Microbiology in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition conducts research aimed to control and understand food borne pathogens.
Duties:
Participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of experiments to identify and develop organic sanitizers and sanitizing technologies.
Control and evaluate expenditure of research funds with PI.
Conduct review of literature in the field in which the research is being done.
Coordinate the work of students on the project and oversee final results.
Develop and supervise the development of methods, techniques, instrumentation, and devices needed to carry out the research project.
Analyze and evaluate research results.
Review progress reports written by subordinates.
Write progress reports and final reports on completion of the project.
Author and coauthor manuscripts for publication and/or presentation at professional meetings.
Draft proposals to funding agencies to procure funds for new projects.
Require/Preferred Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Ph. D. in Food Science, Microbiology, Veterinary Medicine, or related field
Desired Qualifications/ Skills:
Preferred experience in food microbiology research. The successful applicant should have previous practice in cultivating, isolating and identifying microorganisms. It is also desirable past work testing inhibitory effects of antimicrobial compounds and biological agents.
